Arizona - But It's a Dry Heat!

I like the detail in this old building, while right accross the street there's a new buildng that is totally different. I'll post it tomorrow so you can see the difference.

I couldn't help but wonder what the name of this store was. As you can see it's a little hard to read.

Here's another example of the different architectures in Tucson, the old is blended with the new in what seems to be perfect harmony.

I think this is one interesting building, as you can see the whole side has no windows whatsoever. I didn't catch the name of any of the buildings so I couldn't tell you what they are.

Here's another image of the underpasses with these great murals all in black and white. It looks as if it was digitally printed on the wall. I just think they look great.

We went to Tucson to visit my daughter and family and on Saturday we decided to just get in the van and drive, kindda to get the feel of Tucson. I took a bunch of pictures which I'll be highlighting here during the next few days. This is a mural that brought memories of when I was a kid living in Mexico, buses did look like that then.

This picture was taken as we were coming back from the snow. Passing through Flagstaff we saw this train and I asked "mi chica" to take a picture. By this time the window is all dirty from driving through the snow and the mud and as you look at the outside scene through it it gives the illusion that it was snowing. It was not, just so you know.

Just another Phoenix winter scene. If you can believe this weather, I took this picture to show you two things you can find all over Arizona. A catcus and a rock.

I was attracted to this tree because it looks as if it's dancing a tribal dance. It's an interesting tree to say the least.

I don't like for our grass to go yellow during the winter so winter grass was planted, this way our grass remains green all year long.

Here's another example of our desert landscaping. These don't require that much water and it actually looks clean. I still prefer grass and bushes though.

Back to the valley from the snow. Boy that was fun going up to the now but I shy away from cold places like that. It's good to visit for one day but I am glad to come back to the warmth of the valley. This image is one that I get to see everyday as I take my walk. This is the last leg of my 2-mile walk and I always catch this sprinklers going as I pass by. Would you believe it's winter just based on how this grass looks? I didn't think so.

The original intent on this image was to capture the fence. It was built with logs that interlock at the ends thus giving it plenty of character. Since the picture was taken from the moving van the winter scene was captured instead while the fence is kinda lost in the middle.

Very seldom do I post pictures with people but this is such a good example of how the kids were enjoying playing in the snow. Pictured are two of my grand kids.

You almost needed to be a professional mountain climber to get up to the top, or at least young like all these kids. They didn't have too much of a problem. I on the other hand am too old to get up there fast, it took me forever but it was fun.

This is the bridge leading to our first stop in Rock Park road on exit 315, an area full of snow and where all the kids got a chance to play with it for the very first time.

And then all of a sudden on the side of the road you start seeing tons and tons of snow. Notice the addition of thousands of trees.

I captured this image on our way to Northern Arizona. This scene shows part of the arid road typical of our Arizona landscaping.

A scene of the sun saying good night to me. "Don't worry I'll be back tomorrow to warm you up." He said.

This is another of those water puddle pictures I took on Tuesday. I really like the reflection in the water.

I did this before with my car parked by a puddle of water. Yesterday during my lunch brake walk there were puddles all over the place due to the weekend rain. I took a few pictures here and there. This is one of them, to make it interesting I decided to post it upside down.

All the way around these houses we have a walking or running track, why I don't use it is beyond me. It must be a least half a mile long and perfect to stay in shape. If you are wondering if we can fish in the lake, the answer is yes. I personally don't fish but I see people fishing all the time. However it's a catch and release lake. I don't understand why would anybody want to fish and release their catch. What's the point in hurting the fish's mouth with the hook?

During my afternoon walks this is some of the landscaping I see. Notice the desert motif with rocks and pebbles as opposed to grass.

As I said the other day, I'll post a picture a day even if I have to go out to my back yard and shoot the trigger. And no Wanda, it's not a gated community but it is a new community about 10 years old.

And across the street from the big pole is the entrance to the Cotton Center. Again look at how lucky I was to get the shot free of cars, I only had a very tiny window of opportunity and I took it.

At the corner of 40th St. and Wier in Phoenix you'll find this pole. I was taking my walk and looking for something interesting to photograph and this is the first thing that popped out. This is a huge pole as you can see by the girth and the size of the base.

We were sitting out on the patio enjoying a cool morning and since I didn't have any new pictures I decided to go get my camera and click away. These are some scenes from my back yard on January first. Nope, there is no snow in Phoenix.

This is was taken on January 1st, 2008. While other parts of the country have a white Christmas, we here in the Phoenix/Avondale area are enjoying summer weather. As you can see even the ducks decided to take a New Year's swim. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
