Oh glad my picture could grace your page!
Thanks for the post, Jose -- but I hate to tell you, I don't even know what Topo Gigo is -- or are! I'm so not with it, I have never even watched Sponge Bob Square Pants!!! (In fact I had to look up that name to get it right.) See? I told you I'm out of the loop. My 'kids' are in their 40's and I have no grand kids. Probably a good thing since both my sons can't seem to commit to a 'wife' for longer than eight years. So I will Google Topo Gigo and learn something. Don't know if they would be good visitors to my yard -- but I wouldn't mind if they ate the rats!

Later: Oh wow, he's a Spanish Mickey Mouse. I watched his video on You Tube. Loved him and the music. However, you have to understand that Mickey Mouse is American, and I was born and raised in England until I was 22. We had Rupert the Bear, but that was about it, since we didn't have TV until I was about 1952 and up until then we were dealing with the effects of WW2. We did have Roy Rogers and Trigger in the movies. I'll see if I can find a picture of Rupert Bear, but he's not as much fun as Topo Gigo. Tell Michelle her picture is really good.

Topo Gigio

Topo Gigio (left) with Cino Tortorella during the Zecchino d'Oro festival.Topo Gigio was the lead character of a children's puppet show on Italian television, in the early 1960s. The character was created by artist Maria Perego in 1958 and has been customarily voiced by actor Giuseppe (Peppino) Mazzullo.

Topo Gigio, a soft foam mouse with dreamy eyes and childish personality, was very popular in Italy for many years — not only on TV but also in children magazines, such as the classical Corriere dei Piccoli, animated cartoons, movies, and merchandising. Its popularity spread to the world after being featured on Ed Sullivan's weekly TV show in the U.S. Today Topo Gigio still has a cohort of faithful fans, and has become an icon of Italian pop culture. He performs regularly at Zecchino d'Oro festival and other programs created by Antoniano and RAI. In 1965, a feature length motion picture Le Avventure di topo Gigio (The Adventures of Topo Gigio) was released internationally.

The endearing puppet has made appearances and has a fan base in many other countries — including Dominican Republic, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Perú.
